Although I’ve known about this place since studying in Montreal I’ve never managed to visit this place despite several family visits to Toronto!
My hubby finally promised me that we’ll go this time. I flew from Calgary to Toronto, stayed a night, went for a meal there and am now currently on my way to Montreal.
Although there area few branches in Toronto, I went to the 14 Prince Arthur Ave location (as recommended by a friend). This one in particular is known to be Salmon Khan’s favorite spot in Toronto! For those who don’t know, Salmon Khan is one of the biggest Bollywood actors out there.
This location is situated in a fairly peaceful area, not far from the main downtown area. The sign wasn’t that catchy so we could have missed it easily! There are a few street parking spots on the road.
Now let’s talk about food.
Honestly, it was one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve ever been to. That’s coming from someone whose parents own Indian restaurants in the U.K!
– Lazeez Nan- nan baked with spinach and cheese, served with mango chatney
– Hariyali Palak Kebab – spinach patty stuffed with goat cheese
– Murgh Makni – butter chicken
– Dhabey da Mutton – goat curry; spicy and aromatic
– Garlic Nan
I’d have to say: everything was spectacular. What exceeded beyond my expectations was the goat dish (so soft and flavorful), nan breads (very light, fresh, thin and soft) and the spinach/goat cheese kebab. The butter chicken was also the best I’ve had-chicken tikka breast peices of meat were succulent and tasty; sauce was thick, spicy and slightly sweet. Even the mango chatney itself was so fresh; not sticky and too sweet like how most chutneys are.
So if you love Indian food, definitely go to this place and have nan breads rather than rice!
