The best poutine and the only poutine I fell in love with! With so many choices on the menu n choice of cheese @ La Banquise, Montreal

Fresh doughnuts
– chocolate mousse- enjoyed this better than the brownie because I liked the mouse filling sensation
– passion fruit – my hubby said this is the best. Had a glaze around it like “Krispy creme” and was very sweet
– strawberry and peanut butter – a definitely no-no for me
Verdict: I’m not a big fan of doughnuts but this was fresh and good. Worth a try if you are around
Macarons @ À La Folie
The eaton centre had a little branch of this popular macaron place.
After trying the macarons from Paris, this did not compare. However they were good; the chocolate especially was soft. The caramel was dry and I don’t know why.
I recommend la Maison du Macaron if you are around Montreal.

Eggs Benedict: spinach and brie cheese was amazing although the hollandaise sauce could be better! It was topped over fresh bread rather than an english muffin. The smoked salmon Benedict was topped over a bagel; the bagel was a bit hard and was a bit hard to eat. This was served with potatoes – cubed salted roasted potatoes! It really complimented the meal
Juice: fresh but pricey! I had grapefruit. My hubby had mango and orange which was exotic
Overall: I’d definitely go again because I loved the soft toasted bread that was sitting under the eggs. And admired the spinach and brie combination as well as the potatoes and juice!
La Farine D’eau Fraîche, Montreal
La Farine D’eau Fraîche
Latte- really good! Light, smooth and had a soothing taste
Egg muffin- greasy because the english muffin was soaked in butter. Had watercress in it. Meant to be good but didn’t stand out for me
Smoked salmon/cream cheese bagel: average. Not good as Beauty’s
Choux (raspberry and creme) – amazing and light!
Overall: Brunch wasn’t good. A great place to have tea and snacks if you are in the neighbourhood though!
Gelato at G for Gelato, Toronto
I tried gelato from many places in Montreal and Quebec, but I have to say this is the best place….why? Because it’s SOOO creamy and not that “icy”, and is not fully loaded with sugar (as with other kinds of ice cream). Surprisingly the pistachio was the best I’ve ever had! I also liked the sour berry cheesecake gelato. They really were flavourful.
The second best I’ve tried was Dolce Vita in Montreal.
Paysanne Gelato is good too; especially the dark chocolate one.
Suite 88 also sells gelato but I don’t find it that flavourful.
Brunch at Le Cartet
This is known to be a popular brunch/coffee place on rue McGill towards old Montreal.
My friend and I chose to eat here because it’s more central to the main city than other brunch places.
I ordered the Brunch Santé because it was highly rated on tripadvisor and yelp. It was 2 poached eggs (one on a whole wheat toast, the other on a bagel; both with pesto/goat cheese spread and salad), 2 sticks of cheddar cheese, yogurt with organic granola, fig and fresh fruits.
The eggs on toast were good but a little bland. I had to put salt and pepper on it. Toast and bagel were perfectly toasted and were home made! Cheese was average- a rather mature kind, and it went well with the fig! The yogurt wasn’t too thick like greek yogurt and wasn’t bitter. It was quite good! The granola was amazing and not super sweet. This was topped off with a few frozen blueberries. The fruits were not very fresh but ok and it consisted of a couple of strawberries, slice of a grapefruit, an orange and a pineapple. This meal was also served with something called “amuse-bouche” which is similar to a moist, dense piece of cake and was served with orange juice. All for $17.99 I believe. I was stuffed to bits! All in all: it was a great breakfast, a tad pricey, but I expected it to be a bit better in terms of flavour and the freshness of fruits.
My friend, on the other hand, ordered asparagus and cheese omelet that was served on toast, served with a few baby potatoes cooked with duck fat. Yes duck fat!! We both found that too stinky!! 🙂 and my friend couldn’t get rid of that smell from her mouth until hours later! The omelet was rather bland although it was a lot and was light and fluffy.
They held a good selection of Yusmi tea but was charged at 3.25 a bag!
My friend’s coffee wasn’t that hot also but the waitress kindly served more (a second round of hot one). In fact, the service was excellent despite that the restaurant was packed! The ambience was also good.
Would I go there again? Yes, but it wouldn’t top my list of brunch-place-to-go. There are far more better breakfast places out there that have more choices and at a better value. Although, I did love the ambience!..
